About Me: Greg Waltz

Greg is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who is passionate about connecting with his clients to determine an individual treatment plan that works. He has extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, but has found helping individuals in the community to be most fulfilling. He obtained his bachelorette in nursing from Ohio University and his Master of Science from Maryville University where the focus was in mental health. His expertise is in utilizing the best evidence available to guide psychopharmacological treatment while incorporating a holistic approach unique to the individual. He understands that starting medication is a big decision, and therefore needs to be the right fit at the right time. In some cases medication may not be appropriate, so he does not “push meds". Greg specializes in the treatment of ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, and Bipolar Disorder, Type 2.

My Unique Approach to Therapy

Connecting with each client is a vital part of my practice, unlike some providers in mental health, I view each person as important and not just “a number“. I find that checking in regularly with clients about their goals and current satisfaction helps foster a trusting client/provider relationship focused on individual growth. Also, I find it important to work with each person in identifying any barriers that may be present which could hinder therapy and medication from “doing their job“. I firmly believe that positive mental health and well-being does not happen in “a vacuum”, but many factors affect this, therefore a holistic approach is required to achieve lasting results.

Specialized & Extended Training

I take pride in staying up-to-date with current research, utilizing evidence-based practice, and keeping familiar with the latest data. My extensive and varied work experience allows me to have empathy and understanding for all of my clients no matter what their story holds. This comes from 14 years of patient care experience including inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, outpatient medication management, and also partial hospitalization programs.Along with all Start My Wellness therapists, I attend at least 120 hours of extensive ongoing training and personal development each year on treating a range of mental health concerns. This rigorous instruction allows us to provide patients with the highest quality of service.
