About Me: Claudia Cacciato

Hello! My area of experience and expertise is in helping you to reduce symptoms and suffering. I believe that through a therapy approach that focuses on learning about oneself, problem-solving, and empowerment, that personal growth and overcoming obstacles are very possible. I have worked as a psychotherapist for over 10 years (and in the social services industry for about 25 years), with consumers from many backgrounds, and with a wide range of mental health issues. Currently, at Start My Wellness, I am primarily working with adults and children/adolescents from age 13 and up, in a virtual capacity, and am planning on having some in-person availability in the near future. I provide therapy with the aim of being culturally aware while collaborating with the client. My perspective is that of not overlooking the body, mind, and spirit (where applicable), as elements to healing. I work eclectically incorporating approaches such as psychodynamic (insight-oriented, originated by Freud), Humanistic Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have also received comprehensive training in DBT, and some training in trauma-related therapies such as Prolonged Exposure (for PTSD) and TREM (group therapy for Trauma-Related Empowerment Model).

My Unique Approach to Therapy

I am whole-heartedly devoted to getting to know those I work with, and broadening their horizons, in offering the best quality of care I can.

Specialized & Extended Training

I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Wayne State University in 2003, and I have bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Psychology. I have completed the first year of the two-year Advanced Training program in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (ACAPP) through the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, and am planning to complete the second year this Fall 2024. I also have a Post-Graduate Certificate in Social Work Practice with families and couples from Wayne State University completed in 2005.

All Start My Wellness therapists attend at least 120 hours of extensive ongoing training and personal development each year on treating a range of mental health concerns. This rigorous instruction allows us to provide patients with the highest quality of service.
