About Me: Dana Manning

Choosing the right therapist for you is important to helping you in your therapeutic journey. My name is Dana Manning, and I am a clinical psychologist. I use a client-centered and collaborative approach to therapy, meaning that we will work together to identify therapeutic goals and how to reach said goals based on you and your unique circumstances. My treatment focuses on working with adults, parents, and adolescents. While my practice is varied in what challenges my clients may be experiencing, I have focused my research and clinical training on areas of sexual trauma and intergenerational trauma – that is, trauma that has been perpetuated through families. For this reason, I work with parents or parents to be who have experienced trauma and are looking for their own treatment to work through their experiences, as well as skills and parent training to reduce the potential impact of their experiences on their children.

I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and Developmental Psychology, which allows me to take a holistic and integrative approach to understanding the experience of my clients. I also obtained a Master of Science in General Clinical Psychology at Eastern Michigan University, where I focused on research and clinical work. Through this, I had the opportunity to learn different therapeutic approaches, such as psychodynamic therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, and apply these skills to diverse college individuals. Primarily, my experience is working with individuals exposed to trauma, interpersonal issues, and mood dysregulation, such as anxiety and depression. Regardless of what category you may fall under, I emphasize understanding you as a whole person and am committed to providing a supportive and nonjudgmental space for them to explore their concerns.

Starting therapy can be nerve-wracking, and finding a therapist who best suits your needs is an important decision. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you and identify if we would be a good fit. My focus in therapy is to build a safe, open, and warm environment. Subsequently, I will use this environment to help you practice and hone skills learned in therapy that can be transferred to your daily life.

My Unique Approach to Therapy

I believe it is essential to use a client-centered and collaborative approach. This helps us identify your therapeutic goals together and the appropriate path to target them based on your unique needs and circumstances. I have always been drawn to understanding the factors that contribute to an individual’s internal experience and struggles. Meeting new people and playing a part in their journey is immensely rewarding for me, even if our sessions span just one to three meetings. Being able to assist in any capacity you need brings me a great sense of fulfillment.

My academic background in biology and psychology enables me to take a holistic approach in therapy. I believe it’s important to understand you in the context of your multifaceted life and environment to conduct therapy that truly meets your needs. I am generally positive, empathetic, and warm, and these qualities translate into my presence in the therapeutic space.

Specialized & Extended Training

My academic journey has equipped me with the knowledge and experiences needed to serve my clients effectively. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and Developmental Psychology, which allows me to take a holistic and integrative approach to understanding my clients’ experiences. Additionally, I earned a Master of Science in General Clinical Psychology at Eastern Michigan University, where I focused on both research and clinical work. I have published multiple research articles within the area of trauma and personality. I completed the Strong Roots: Mom Power intervention training program.
