About Me: Derrick Martinez

Welcome to a space where your growth, well-being, and relationships take center stage. I specialize in working with men, teen boys, and couples who are navigating challenges with identity, communication, intimacy, and connection. Whether you’re a teen finding your place in the world, a man wrestling with purpose and self-esteem, or a couple seeking to rebuild trust and closeness, I provide a safe and affirming environment to explore these concerns.

In therapy, we’ll work together to strengthen relationships, increase self-awareness, and foster healthier ways of connecting. I particularly enjoy helping men and young men develop emotional insight, empathy, and confidence while breaking free from the pressures to “have it all figured out.” With couples, my focus is on deepening intimacy, improving communication, and creating a foundation of understanding and trust.

My Unique Approach to Therapy

My style is compassionate, down-to-earth, and collaborative. I draw on evidence-based practices while tailoring therapy to your unique needs and pace. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, trauma, or relational and sexual concerns, I provide a supportive space for meaningful growth and lasting change.

Specialized & Extended Training

I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where I specialized in Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health, Mental Health, and Substance Use. Over the past seven years, I’ve worked with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults across schools, universities, community mental health centers, and federally qualified health centers. These experiences have shaped my passion for supporting men, teen boys, and couples in creating lives and relationships that feel authentic and fulfilling.
