About Me: Matthew Clinton

I am dedicated to providing comprehensive support to individuals from all walks of life, with a particular emphasis on assisting athletes.

With a background in Sport Management from Western Michigan University and as a former youth athlete, I understand the unique pressures and challenges that athletes face both on and off the field. Performance anxiety, high expectations on the self and possibly from others, or the frustration of in juries are simply a fraction of the issues that athletes of all ages can face. I offer tailored strategies to help athletes optimize their mental well-being and achieve their goals while also meeting them where they’re at.

Coupled with my Social Work background from the University of Michigan, I bring a holistic approach to therapy, recognizing the interconnectedness of mental, emotional, and social factors in shaping one's overall health. I strive to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals of diverse identities, including LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, where they can explore their experiences and find support without fear of judgment or discrimination.

My experience working with high school students, including athletes, has equipped me with insights into their developmental challenges. Whether it is navigating academic pressures, peer relationships, or sports-related stressors, I am committed to empowering young athletes to build resilience and thrive both on and off the field.

My Unique Approach to Therapy

My passion in life is to help others help themselves. That is the foundation of the work I will do with you, as you are the leader of your experience and I will help you the way that you need it. Navigating everyday life can be incredibly difficult for many of us, so providing a safe space to build a collaborative therapeutic relationship is something I am proud to provide. Motivational interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are some of the methods of treatment I use, so I will help you reach your goals in a measurable and realistic timeline that works for you.

Specialized & Extended Training

All Start My Wellness therapists attend at least 120 hours of extensive ongoing training and personal development each year on treating a range of mental health concerns. This rigorous instruction allows us to provide patients with the highest quality of service.
