About Me: Ryan Harms

I am a clinical social worker and psychotherapist with over a decade of professional experience in various social work roles. I have provided psychotherapy to individuals with a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, complex trauma, and relationship issues. While my focus has mainly been on working with adult individuals, I also have experience and training in working with adolescents. My primary therapeutic orientation is psychodynamic, where I help individuals navigate their thoughts and emotions to enhance their relationships with others, empower themselves, and make desired changes in their lives.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in psychology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, and my Master’s in social work, specializing in interpersonal practice mental health, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Currently, I am enrolled in the Advanced Training program in psychodynamic therapy at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute.

My Unique Approach to Therapy

My primary orientation to therapy is psychodynamic. I aspire to provide people with a space where they can speak freely and be listened to deeply, enabling them to get to know and understand themselves more fully. In doing so, I work with people to become more comfortable with their thoughts and feelings, identify barriers to change, and make desired changes in their lives. Additionally, I have exposure to and training in both Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Specialized & Extended Training

I am currently completing the second year of the two-year Advanced Training program in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (ACAPP) through the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. I’ve also undergone comprehensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and have received training in CBT and ACT therapy.

All Start My Wellness therapists attend at least 120 hours of extensive ongoing training and personal development each year on treating a range of mental health concerns. This rigorous instruction allows us to provide patients with the highest quality of service.

I received an affordable, thorough psychological assessment by Dr. Bloom. He was very helpful, knowledgeable and insightful. I very much appreciate the service he offers because full neuropsychological testing is expensive and nearly unobtainable for people with certain types of insurance. I paid out of pocket and it was worth every cent.

It's not normal for me to write reviews. The service that I received from the staff at Start my wellness, was absolutely amazing! The response and help from Rayven at the front desk was extremely helpful. She was able to walk through the process without making me feel rushed or pressured. She was knowledgable of the everything I need to be seen in a timely and professional manner. The treatment team was caring and warm. I didn't feel like "Just another patient", or embarrassed about my conditions. Thank you all for helping me.

Wonderful practice. Provide primarily virtual sessions which is preferred for me. Dr. Marashi is very knowledgable and helped me finally for the first time in my adult life nail down a combination of medications to help manage my PMDD and ADHD struggles. I could not have achieved everything I have in the past year without her support and knowledge. I recommend to everyone that struggles with their mental health.
