Psychiatric Medication

Mental wellness is about balance. While traditional therapy is effective for many individuals looking for essential support, medication management can also be effective in reducing symptoms and achieving a high quality of life.

For many, the best strategy is holistic mental health care that combines therapy with psychiatric medication. At Start My Wellness, we focus on tailoring treatments to your unique needs, ensuring that every individual gets the support they need to live the best life possible.

Psychiatric Medication + Therapy = Better Outcomes

Medication management serves as a vital tool in helping individuals manage mental health symptoms, offering relief that helps individuals engage more fully in therapy and their daily lives. Medication can help reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD, making it easier for individuals to focus, feel motivated, and actively participate in their personal growth. Where medication offers short-term relief, therapy focuses on long-term skills and coping strategies for long-term growth and well-being. Together, medication + therapy offer a comprehensive treatment plan for individuals seeking support.

It’s important to understand that medication is not intended to be a permanent solution. Rather, it acts as a tool to assist individuals as they begin their mental health journey, helping them feel more balanced and ready to address deeper concerns in therapy. This combined approach enables individuals to eventually manage their mental health on their own terms, empowering them to live fulfilling lives with increased self-awareness, confidence, and autonomy.

Psychiatric Medication FAQs

HIDDEN - DO NOT DELETE
Who can prescribe psychiatric medication?

The main professionals who can prescribe medication are psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners (PNPs), and medical doctors, as they have the pharmacological training required to safely and effectively administer medication.

Can you get prescribed medication online?

While it’s possible to get prescribed medication via telehealth prescriptions, most often psychiatric evaluations are conducted in-person to determine if medication is appropriate and to ensure accuracy and quality of testing. Additionally, controlled substances can not be prescribed online.

Can you take medication without going to therapy?
It is possible to take medication without going to therapy, but it’s generally not recommended because while medication reduces symptoms, it cannot replace the lessons and strategies therapy offers in promoting long-term growth and does not address underlying causes. Research indicates that medication with therapy is much more effective in the long term, including after treatment ends, than medication alone.
Is it safe to take psychiatric medication?

It is safe to take medication as prescribed by a professional psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. These professionals are trained in best practices and how to appropriately modulate starting and stopping medication incrementally so that individuals receive the support they need with minimal risks.

Does insurance cover psychiatric medication?

Start My Wellness is in-network with several insurance providers and also accepts payments through HSAs, MSAs, FSAs, and HRAs. Call us today at (248)-514-4955 and we’ll let you know what the cost of therapy is after insurance. For more questions visit our Insurances We Accept page.
