About Kendra Nash
As a therapist, I believe that positive mental health is a basic human right and is vital to a healthy and happy life. However, it can be difficult to navigate our mental health journey on your own. I am here to help you when you are feeling stuck.
I graduated with my B.A. in Psychology and Communications & Media from the University of Michigan, and earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. My experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults with serious mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities as both a case manager and an outpatient therapist. I incorporate aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and play therapy into sessions to best fit your needs. I am trained in trauma-focused CBT and am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I have experience working with individuals with PTSD and histories of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). I work with these individuals to not explore “what’s wrong with you,” but instead focusing on “what happened to you.” By incorporating relaxation and grounding techniques, we can work together to reduce the physiological impact of these life experiences.
I am committed to increasing emotional well being and reducing stigma associated with mental illness amongst all populations. My goal as a therapist is not to change clients, but rather to empower clients with the tools and resources needed for them to reach their own goals. In order to create positive change, I strive to create a client-therapist relationship that is built on empathy, compassion, safety and trust. I realize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and I will work with you side-by-side to create a person-centered therapeutic experience that fits your needs.
Unique Approach to Therapy
Connecting with each client is a vital part of my practice, unlike some providers in mental health, I view each person as important and not just “a number“. I find that checking in regularly with clients about their goals and current satisfaction helps foster a trusting client/provider relationship focused on individual growth. Also, I find it important to work with each person in identifying any barriers that may be present which could hinder therapy and medication from “doing their job“. I firmly believe that positive mental health and well-being does not happen in “a vacuum”, but many factors affect this, therefore a holistic approach is required to achieve lasting results.
