About Scott Tomey
Life can be very challenging, so sometimes it takes assistance to become more self-aware and make the changes required to rise above the circumstances. When you come into my office, I will be there to support you through these difficult times and help you develop coping skills that will enable you to start making positive changes in the ways that you think or live.
I graduated with a Master’s of Science in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. I primarily work with children, adolescents, and adults specializing in anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationships, life transitions, and behavioral concerns. I have prior experience working with diverse populations of college-aged adults and non-traditional students with the University of Michigan-Dearborn Counseling and Psychological Services, as well as experience working with a wide range of clients within a private practice setting.
All of us would like to improve our lives. By forming a strong therapeutic relationship, we can start strengthening your life by working together largely within a Psychodynamic approach or through a combination of therapeutic approaches that are tailored specifically with your needs and goals. Together we can find hope or meaning in your life, gain greater insight towards your problems, and begin developing the necessary skills needed to cope in the world today.
Unique Approach to Therapy
Connecting with each client is a vital part of my practice, unlike some providers in mental health, I view each person as important and not just “a number“. I find that checking in regularly with clients about their goals and current satisfaction helps foster a trusting client/provider relationship focused on individual growth. Also, I find it important to work with each person in identifying any barriers that may be present which could hinder therapy and medication from “doing their job“. I firmly believe that positive mental health and well-being does not happen in “a vacuum”, but many factors affect this, therefore a holistic approach is required to achieve lasting results.
