About Tynise Penn
My name is Tynise Penn. I received my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), from Wayne State University. I am currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan – Flint. I am certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. My career history involves Internal Medicine/ Primary Care, and Chronic Kidney Disease management with outpatient Kidney Transplant care. My most recent experience involves the treatment of patients with Psychiatric disorders/ illnesses in an outpatient clinical setting. My combined experience allows for a unique approach in understanding how physical health can impact mental health and vice versa.
Of my 20 years in the nursing/ medical field, I take much delight in the area of Psychiatry/ Mental health. I am a spiritual person that believes that how I treat others is a direct reflection of my relationship with GOD. Also, that all human beings deserve to be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their race, age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or diagnosis. There is a saying that if you love what you do, you will never WORK a day in your life. I must say that in all my years in this field, I have not worked. I have taken care of my patients and treated them like my own family and have enjoyed every minute of it.
My treatment approach is includes establishing an environment of trust and offering empathetic care that is not solely based on a diagnosis, but truly listening to you as a person that has their own individualized needs. Also, my goal as a Nurse Practitioner provider is to always serve as your advocate, in which I am concerned about helping you and your family make the best-informed decisions regarding your mental health and medication management.
Unique Approach to Therapy
Connecting with each client is a vital part of my practice, unlike some providers in mental health, I view each person as important and not just “a number“. I find that checking in regularly with clients about their goals and current satisfaction helps foster a trusting client/provider relationship focused on individual growth. Also, I find it important to work with each person in identifying any barriers that may be present which could hinder therapy and medication from “doing their job“. I firmly believe that positive mental health and well-being does not happen in “a vacuum”, but many factors affect this, therefore a holistic approach is required to achieve lasting results.
