Patient: How long is a therapy session and what happens if we run out of time?
Therapist: A therapy session is typically about 60 minutes. Usually the therapist will keep track of the time and monitor where the session is going so that they help you pace the time. If the time is approaching the end, they might say, “Okay, this is an important topic, but let’s pick it up next week.” Sometimes if you find that you’re running out of time or you want to talk more, you can see the therapist more than once a week. A lot of times that can be really helpful because you want that continuity and developed relationship. The more involved in the therapeutic relationship you are, the more room there is for growth. It’s like a really productive type of relationship.
